Post Office Remains Closed After Evacuation

August 25, 2006 - 4:44pm
TAKOMA PARK, Md. - The Langley Park Post Office could remain closed over the weekend, after it was evacauted on Friday afternoon because of reports of a strange odor.

A woman reported having difficulty breathing after leaving the post office around 12:45 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Captain Oscar Garcia says.

A hazardous materials team examined the post office, located on Holton Lane, and did not find any signs of a hazardous substance, Garcia says.

U.S. Postal inspectors will examine the post office.

There were 15 customers inside the post office and six employees when the evacuation occurred.

Garcia says some employees and the female customer were treated at the scene for minor respiratory problems.

The post office remains closed for the rest of Friday and possibly through the weekend.
