Life-Sized Photos Help Families Cope

August 28, 2007 - 5:54pm
Evan Haning, WTOP Radio

WASHINGTON - When a loved one goes off to war, those left behind usually put a picture on the mantlepiece to help remember their soldier. Now there's a new and improved twist on that old custom.

Flat Daddies or Flat Mommies are life-sized photographs of soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Families who miss their enlisted relative like having these pictures around.

But these mementoes are expensive, so with the help from the Red Cross and tax-deductible contributions, SFC Graphics in Ohio has been able to ship 3,700 Flat Daddies since November.

If you are interested in contributing to the Flat Daddy fund or have a family member shipping out, click here for more information.
