Prince George's Students Shifted Out of Algebra

January 16, 2006 - 6:39am
UNDATED (AP) - A Maryland graduation test has school officials in Prince George's County looking to protect students who might fail it.

The Washington Post reports that at least 2,500 freshmen will be moved Tuesday into a two-year program, out of a typical one-year algebra course.

The new class will be called Algebraic Concepts, which will give the students an extra year to prepare for the test.

Prince George's County interim schools chief Howard Burnett tells the Post that the move had to be made because the old system wasn't working.

He says "we have to start doing things differently."
