Prince George's Police Officer Killed in Iraq

March 29, 2006 - 4:18pm
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - A Prince George's County police officer has been killed in Iraq.

Police Chief Melvin High says Corporal Robert Hernandez was killed Tuesday when his convoy was struck by an explosive device. Police say the Army Reservist had been in Iraq since summer.

Hernandez was a 10 year veteran of the Prince George's County police department, and previously worked as an officer in both D.C. and Baltimore.

Police are remembering Hernandez as a hardworking man who won the respect of his fellow officers.

Hernandez is survived by his family in Silver Spring.
