Money for S. Capitol Street Improvements Increased

March 31, 2005 - 7:36am
WASHINGTON - It turns out there's even more money for some D.C. road projects than first thought.

An extra $20 million was added by lawmakers on Capitol Hill for the South Capitol Street Gateway. The extra money brings the total to $50 million.

Part of the money will go to rehabilitate the 64-year-old Frederick Douglass Bridge, which authorities say is in very bad shape. The bridge was last rehabilitated in 1976.

Maryland is also going to see improvements from the massive $284 billion transportation bill the House passed.

Among the projects will be a new interchange connecting Branch Avenue, Maryland Route 373 and Brandywine Road and upgrades to Indian Head Highway.
