Federal Grand Jury to Help in Sheriff's Wife's Murder

March 31, 2005 - 6:56am
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - There is word a federal grand jury in Alexandria will help in a nearly year-long investigation into the murder of Nancy Dunning, the wife of Alexandria Sheriff James Dunning.

Channel 4 reports the federal grand jury has authority to seek testimony and evidence from people out of state.

Nancy Dunning was found shot to death inside the entrance to her home in Del Ray last Dec. 5th. Her husband found her body when she failed to meet him and their son for lunch. Alexandria police have never maintained they have a suspect. Sheriff Dunning has remained on the job, although he was recently hospitalized for vertigo and dehydration.
