WASHINGTON - There are plans in Congress to hire a consultant to come up with a comprehensive security plan for the District.
And, local leaders are also hoping to pave the way for smoother traffic flow amid the roadblocks that are affecting residential areas around Capitol Hill.
D.C. City Administrator Robert Bobb says the city is now included in the discussions that affect traffic, a chief concern of Metropolitan Police Chief Charles Ramsey after the U.S. Capitol Police department set up 14 checkpoints along major eastbound and westbound arteries in the city.
Bobb says city transportation officials are working with U.S. Capitol Police to reduce the number of checkpoints on Second Street.
"With regard to the other checkpoints on Constitution and Pennsylvania, those checkpoints will remain in place for the foreseeable future," Bobb says.
Bobb hopes some conclusion can be reached before Congress comes back in session and kids go back to school in September.
