Metrobuses Start Accepting SmarTrip Cards

March 31, 2005 - 6:40am
WASHINGTON - Metrobuses start accepting SmarTrip cards Monday.

New fare boxes installed on the buses will let you pay your fares and will automatically deduct your fare if transfer from the subway.

The new fare boxes will still accept cash, but won't accept pennies.

Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein also says the transit agency no longer appears in danger of running out of SmarTrip cards.

Summer demand has now dropped a bit.

"Our Smartrip machines are fully stocked and people can continue to buy them," she says.

With additional shipments, Metro is expected to have about 40,000 SmartTrip cards available later this week.
