Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein also says the transit agency no longer appears in danger of running out of SmarTrip cards.
Summer demand has now dropped a bit.
"Our Smartrip machines are fully stocked and people can continue to buy them," she says.
With additional shipments, Metro is expected to have about 40,000 SmartTrip cards available later this week.
