WASHINGTON - Police early Friday safely rescued a 70-year-old woman after suspected carjackers crashed a white Lincoln Continental into her Northeast living room during a police chase.

Six suspects barricaded themselves in the home's basement, prompting police to send a SWAT team with sharpshooters to the scene in the 4,200-block of Nash Street.

Police used a bull horn to get the suspects to surrender.

Channel 4 reports all the suspects are juveniles and that a gun was found in the back seat of the car.

The police pursuit started after several armed suspects tried to carjack an off-duty D.C. police officer's vehicle at a gas station at Southern and Eastern avenues in Prince George's County about 3 a.m.. Authorities say the officer was able to prevent the crime by locking the doors and calling other officers for help.

Police chased the vehicle until it crashed into the house, just before 4 a.m.

Police helped the woman out a window to get her from the home.
