Why Your Dog Gets Loopy During the Lunar Cycle

WASHINGTON -- Do you notice your pup acting weird when the moon is full?

An 11-year study of 12,000 animals reveals the full moon may be to blame for your pet's unusual behavior.

Study results showed business picked up significantly at the Colorado State University Veterinary Medical Centre around the time of a full moon.

During that same time, a higher number of dogs and cats suffering from seizures, poisoning or trauma arrived in the emergency room.

According to one vet, for dogs and cats, a full moon tends to bring on assorted mishaps including car accidents.

Domestic animals aren't the only ones affected by the lunar cycle.

In Sydney, Australia, a vet noticed an increase in cows calving on a full moon.

A full report can be found in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
