Gun Battle Brewing Between NYC Mayor, Va. AG

RICHMOND, Va. - The war of words continues between New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Virginia's attorney general over tactics used in combating illegal gun sales.

Bloomberg has sued 27 out-of-state gun dealers in an attempt to reduce the flow of illegal guns into his city. He says dealers, some in Virginia, have supplied hundreds of weapons used in New York City crimes.

New York hired private investigators to purchase a gun at a Virginia gun store for someone else -- which is a federal crime.

Investigators also used a hidden camera in a similar transaction at Toccoa Pawn & Variety in Georgia. (Watch the Video)

Virginia's AG Robert McDonnell wrote to Bloomberg saying a new state law, starting July 1, will prohibit the use of hidden cameras when buying a gun.

"Virginia State Police enforce the Virginia laws regarding gun dealers and straw purchase sales in Virginia, not private agencies."

Bloomberg says McDonnell should be more "aggressive in enforcing the gun laws rather than enforcing a law that protects the gun lobby."
