Va. Offensive Guard Will Enter NFL Draft

January 3, 2008 - 7:46am

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Virginia offensive guard Branden Albert will forgo his final season of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft, he told coach Al Groh on Wednesday.

Albert, a 6-foot-7, 310-pound third-team All-American, told The Roanoke Times he would complete the necessary paperwork to become eligible for the draft.

"I have been thinking about this decision for about the last month," Albert told the newspaper a day after Virginia lost to Texas Tech 31-28 in the Gator Bowl. "I've known for the last week or so that I'm going to come out."

Albert, 23 and a first-team All-ACC player, was a co-captain on the team and started all 37 games of his career at Virginia.

"We're supportive of whatever is in his best interest," Groh told The Associated Press.
