Two Emergency Stadium Measures Planned

December 5, 2005 - 5:12pm
WASHINGTON - The battle over a new ballpark for the Washington Nationals is expected to take a new turn Tuesday.

Councilman David Catania says during Tuesday's legislative session, he plans to introduce two emergency measures.

One would slap a $535 million limit on spending to build the stadium. Catania says that's necessary because the city's chief financial officer has testified that technical amendments removed the spending limit.

His second emergency measure will state that the stadium and related infrastructure improvements can only be paid for by city bonds.

Catania accuses stadium planners of undermining lawmakers' expectations that road and transit improvements would be paid for as part of the overall project.
