The movie prompted some of us in the glass enclosed nerve center to wonder who would be cast if Hollywood were to zoom in on our local politics.
Of course, the movie would have to center around Washington's most famous politician, Marion Barry. Anyone who has seen "Talk To Me", the Petey Greene story, knows the role of D.C.'s "Mayor for Life" could only be played by Don Cheadle. (By the way, if you haven't seen "Talk To Me," you should. It's the first Hollywood film to really capture the essence of D.C.)

The storyline would go something like this: A self absorbed civil rights leader seduced by power, drugs and sex rises to power only to lose everything on his way to prison.
After years in prison, he returns to power only to find a new cast of politicians running his city.
A new mayor is in charge.
The antithesis of the flamboyant and outspoken Barry. The bow tie-clad Anthony Williams is played by hip-hop pioneer Russell Simmons.
But Williams' time in the sun is short lived.
Barry manages to hold on to some political power, but finds himself watching a heated race for his old job.
The candidates? A longtime politician and wife of Barry's former adviser, Linda Cropp. Cropp, who is played by Star Jones (she'll need to get that gastric bypass reversed), faces off with newcomer Adrian Fenty. Hollywood needed a real stud to play the full-time triathlete / part-time mayor, so they went outside the box and cast tennis star James Blake. The resemblance more than makes up for the fact he can't act.

Once in power, Fenty gives old school Police Chief Charles Ramsey the boot. Morgan Freeman agrees to put on 50 pounds to play the role of the ousted chief. It was either that or painting freckles on Forest Whitaker.
The new chief is made for Hollywood. The starlets fall over themselves for the opportunity to play the youngest and only female top cop in the country. The role goes to Hillary Swank. It's the teeth that seal the deal.
Of course, there are some smaller roles in this B-movie. The District's non-voting delegate to Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton, is played by Cicely Tyson. Jack Evans, the longest continuously serving D.C. councilmember, is ably portrayed by James Cromwell. "Golden Girls" star Bea Arthur will star as D.C. Councilmember Carol Schwartz.
