The closure will occur by 11 p.m. Friday. By 7 a.m. Saturday, the northbound lanes will reopen.
Saturday night the southbound lanes will be closed for the same construction. The lanes will be closed by 11 p.m. and reopen by 9 a.m.
Drivers will be directed to the exit ramp lanes for Route 50 and continue through the ramp lanes for access back onto I-495 north.
Fannie Mae Help The Homeless Walkathon
Streets along the route of the walkathon will begin closing at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. The walkathon is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Walkathon Route: Participants will gather on the National Mall and proceed eastbound to 7th Street, NW, then southbound on 7th Street, NW, to Independence Avenue, SW, westbound on Independence Avenue to Raoul Wallenberg Drive, SW, southbound on Raoul Wallenberg Drive, SW, to Ohio Drive, SW, around the Tidal Basin back to Independence Avenue, SW, eastbound on Independence Avenue, SW, across 14th Street and end at the intersection of 14th Street and Madison Drive, NW.
Metro work
Metro will be conducting maintenance on 4 rail lines and re-routing multiple bus lines this weekend.
Orange Line
People traveling between the East Falls Church and Ballston-MU stations should add 20 minutes to their trips as Metro will be replacing crossties. Trains will share one track from 8 p.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday.
Red Line
People traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore stations should add 20 minutes to their trips because Metro will be replacing rail fasteners that stabilize tracks as wall as be making tunnel repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations from 9:30 p.m. Friday to midnight on Sunday.
Blue and Yellow Line
People traveling between the Van Dorn Street and King Street stations should add 30 minutes to their trips as Metro will be trimming leaves and weeds along the rail tracks. Trains will share one track between these locations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
All Yellow and Blue Line trains will operate to the Huntington stations during these times. Metro will operate a special Blue Line shuttle train between the Franconia-Springfield and King Street stations. At King Street, customers will be able to catch a Blue or Yellow Line train to the Largo Town Center or Fort Totten Metrorail stations.
Metro bus routes
From 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, routes F4 and Z8 will be re-routed due to the Silver Spring Thanksgiving parade that will close Fenton Street between Wayne Avenue and Colesville Road.
From 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, routes 32, 34, 36, 52, 54, 64, 70 and V8 will be re-routed for the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk-a-thon that will close Independence Avenue NW between 7th and 14th Street NW.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, routes 32, 36 and 38B will be re-routed due to heavy crane lifting operations that will close I Street NW between 18th and 19th Street NW.
