I was born in Hamburg, grew up in Sidney, and spent some time in Peru - all in the state of Iowa.

My flat Midwestern accent comes from a childhood in the plains states and my move to California, in adolescence, led to a career in broadcasting.

And like so many others, I didn't choose radio so much as radio chose me: it's what I always wanted to do.

In Los Angeles I worked at such stations as KRLA and KGIL, and with such legendary radio personalities as Wolfman Jack, Robt. W. Morgan and Dave Hull.

After moving to the Washington Metro area in the 1980s, I made the transition to talk and news. I've filled in for Jim Bohannon on America in the Morning and for Dirk Van on his First Light show.

Being part of WTOP's news team is endlessly fascinating. I'm sent to cover a wide range of stories, associate with police and emergency workers who see more action in a week than most of us see in a lifetime, and I get an endless, cutaway view of some very interesting lives.

I have two children: Amber is a student at St. John's College High School in the District. Garrison is a cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
