Army announces Arlington Cemetery probe

November 14, 2009 - 8:16am

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Army has announced an investigation into Arlington National Cemetery more than a year after cemetery workers buried cremated remains at a grave site already in use.

Secretary of the Army John McHugh said Friday that the investigation will look into accountability of some graves and poor record keeping.

The Pentagon said in May 2008, the mistake concerning the grave site already in use was discovered. Cemetery workers moved the cremated remains to another grave site and remarked the original grave.

The probe also comes after an investigation into the discovery an unmarked grave.
