Kaine Loses Orange Bowl Wager

January 4, 2008 - 9:07am
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Tim Kaine has lost a friendly wager after Kansas beat Virginia Tech 24-21 in the 2008 Orange Bowl.

Kaine's office has said that if the Hokies won, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius would send Kaine an assortment of Kansas beef. But if the Jayhawks won, Kaine will send along a Virginia ham.

While their high-powered offense was stymied most of the night, the Jayhawks came up with three interceptions and beat the Hokies. The turnovers led to 17 Kansas points.

It was a bittersweet finish for the Hokies, who revived campus spirits this season following the April 16 massacre that left 33 people dead, including the gunman.
