WHEATON, Md. - Thirteen Parkland Middle School students escaped serious injury after their Montgomery County school bus and a dump truck collided Tuesday morning.

Montgomery County Police say the driver of the dump truck ran a red light and clipped the bus, sending it off the road.

Both vehicles ended up wedged up on the sidewalk of Veirs Mill Road at Robindale Drive in the Wheaton Woods - Aspen Hills area.

The students from Bus 8897 were checked out. Four who complained of minor injuries were taken to Suburban Hospital, according to Montgomery County Fire spokesman Pete Piringer, who says the accident doesn't appear to have happened at high speeds.

The driver of the dump truck, who was experiencing chest pains from a previous cardiac condition, also was transported, but the school bus driver was not.

At the time of the accident, eastbound Veirs Mill Road had to be closed.
