Eastern Shore Lighthouse for Sale

September 18, 2006 - 9:26am
ROMANCOKE, Md. (AP) - The U.S. General Services Administration is trying to sell the Bloody Point Lighthouse.

The minimum bid for the iron light tower just off the south end of Kent Island is $30,000 and bid increments above that must be at least $5,000.

It was first lighted in 1882 and is located on the tip of Bloody Point Bar, which extends out from the southern end of Kent Island.

The lighthouse was designed to warn mariners away the shoal and mark the Chesapeake Bay shipping channel and the entrance into Eastern Bay.

One condition of any sale is that the light at the top of the tower will continue to be an active aid to navigation and will be maintained by the Coast Guard.
