A Frederick County grand jury Friday indicted a Frederick man on charges tied to a burglary spree that targeted city residences in October and November, State's Attorney Charlie Smith said.
During their investigation, Frederick police found that Derek Edwin Lindsey, 37, was taking jewelry, laptop computers, video game systems and other items from homes in the Amber Meadows, North Crossing and Clover Ridge subdivisions, according to court documents.
Stopped for traffic violations, police said they found some stolen items in his vehicle. Later, after obtaining a search warrant, police recovered other items reported stolen from six residences, including a handgun.
The front doors of the residences had been kicked in, Smith said.
The grand jury indicted Lindsey on six counts of first-degree burglary and other charges including theft, malicious destruction of property and illegal possession of a regulated firearm, Smith said.
The charges against Lindsey were forwarded to Circuit Court.
The grand jury heard cases beginning at 9 a.m. and stretching into the afternoon Friday, Smith said.
Among others indicted who now face trial in Circuit Court are:
n Charles Leroy Young Jr., 46, of Frederick .
Young was indicted on charges including armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, theft and reckless endangerment.
Young is accused in an Oct. 16 robbery at the BP gas station at 503 W. Seventh St. in Frederick .
The robber then fled in a white van with ladders on top, Smith said.
Police found a van matching this description at Young's house.
n Franklin R. Sheppard III, 21, of Frederick .
Sheppard was indicted on five charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, marijuana, Oxycontin, Ecstasy and steroids.
Sheppard was arrested Oct. 30, the result of a search by Frederick Police Department officers of an apartment in the 5400 block of Upper Mill Terrace South.
n Jose R. Lopez, 24, of Frederick .
Lopez was indicted on charges of second-degree assault and rape in connection with a Nov. 1 report investigated by the Frederick Police Department.
