WASHINGTON - A woman was killed after being struck by a Metrobus in Northeast D.C. Monday evening.

Stephanie Richardson, 61, of the District died Tuesday afternoon at Washington Hospital Center.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m. about a block east of Gallaudet University - on Mount Olivet Road near Trinidad Avenue Northeast.

According to preliminary information gathered by Metro investigators, Richardson was attempting to cross the street in front of a bus she had just exited.

As she was crossing the street, a second Metro bus struck her.

There are no crosswalks in the area. The closest crosswalk is at the end of the block on Montello Avenue.

The bus driver of the striking vehicle has been with Metro since March of last year. Investigations are underway by both the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority and the Metropolitan Police Department.

On Sept. 3, another bus struck a jogger. Amanda Mahnke, 30, is recovering from her injuries. She was struck in Northwest at Connecticut and Florida Avenues. The driver of that bus had a repeat record of accidents and was fired.
