WASHINGTON - The D.C. Teachers Union tells WTOP it will sue D.C. Public Schools for laying off nearly 400 school employees.

Washington Teachers Union President George Parker tells WTOP they will be filing lawsuits.

"We're in the process of right now of working with our attorneys," Parker says. "We're looking at age discrimination and we're looking at the unfairness of the process."

Parker made the announcement during a protest at McKinley Tech High School in Northeast Monday morning.

A couple hundred students, teachers, parents and community members attended the rally.

The event later evolved into a march to the D.C. Board of Education. A police escort resulted in rolling roadblocks, which allowed students -- many of whom were ignoring crosswalks -- to cross the street safely.

About 400 D.C. Public Schools employees learned on Friday that they had been placed on administrative leave and would be out of a job on Nov. 2.
