More arrests made in murder of pizza shop owner

WASHINGTON - D.C. Police have made more arrests in the brutal murder of a pizza shop owner last month in Northeast.

Leon Robinson has been charged with first degree murder of Shahabuddin Rana, according to a spokesperson for D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier.

Rana, 44, was found dead inside the Pizza Mart in the 2300 block of Fourth Street on Aug. 18. He had been severely beaten and stabbed, his head nearly decapitated and his body set on fire, according to police sources.

Robinson is the second person to be charged with the murder. His sister, Shanika Robinson, was arrested and charged several weeks ago.

A third suspect, 26-year-old Isaiah Genus of Southeast, has also been arrested.

According to court records, the murder evolved out of an immigration scam gone bad. Rana had been paying Ms. Robinson $500 a week for marrying his brother in the hopes it would help the Pakistani national get a green card.

When Rana stopped making the weekly payments, Ms. Robinson and two or three men confronted him at the Pizza Mart. Rana stopped paying when he found out she was having "sexual relations" with other men, court records show.

Earlier this month, Terrance Green, a D.C. cop, hanged himself after he was questioned by detectives investigating the murder. Green had his police powers revoked and was subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury. He was found in his parents home in Capital Heights.
