Better late than never? Barry files 2007 taxes

WASHINGTON - D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry has now filed his 2007 federal and local tax returns, according to his longtime attorney, Fred Cooke.

The U.S. Attorney recently asked a federal magistrate to send the former District mayor to jail for failing to live up to the requirements of his probation.

Barry was given three years probation in 2006 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges for failing to file his tax returns from 1999 to 2004

Barry has said his failing health distracted him from filing his taxes last year.
