Drinking it up: D.C. to let bars serve until 5 a.m.

December 3, 2008 - 9:38am
WASHINGTON - The District's bars will be open around the clock for the inaugural festivities, but they'll stop serving between 5 a.m. and when they normally would open.

If Mayor Adrian Fenty signs off on a bill approved by the D.C. Council, the bars will stay open 24 hours between Jan. 17 and Jan. 21.

Nightclubs that host inaugural balls or parties may be able to apply for a special exception.

Fenty tells WTOP Radio wants to hear the pros and cons of keeping the bars open longer before he makes a decision.
