ROCKVILLE, Md. --Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is going back to work Monday nine and a half weeks after he left the race for governor, saying he need to recuperate from just-diagnosed clinical depression.

The Gazette reports Duncan will greet students on the first day of school at Magruder High School in Derwood and Highland Elementary School in Wheaton.

Duncan has gone to his office occasionally and has been seen out-and-about with family and friends.

When Duncan, 50, dropped out of the race for governor, he effectively handed the Democratic nomination to Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley and setting up a general election battle between the mayor and Gov. Bob Ehrlich.
