Disabled Train Causes Delays on Metro's Orange Line

January 3, 2006 - 12:11pm
WASHINGTON - Metro is looking into what caused a mechanical problem on an Orange Line train that caused significant delays during the Tuesday morning rush hour.

Metro says train 905 went into service at the West Falls Church station at 6:27 a.m., picked up three passengers and headed toward Vienna. About 100 feet outside the station, the train experienced a mechanical problem and came to a stop.

Metro employees escorted the passengers back to the West Falls Church station at 7:14 a.m. as other workers tried to remove the train from the tracks.

Trains were getting by single-track around the disabled train. Buses were sent to take passengers from West Falls Church to Dunn Loring and Vienna.

Trains began moving through the area again around 8:20 a.m.
