WASHINGTON -- An escaped inmate was caught without incident Thursday night in Southeast D.C.

Terrence Moore was found in a car on Wheeler Road and 10th Place in Southeast around 7 p.m. Sources tell WTOP that a neighbor reported Moore was sleeping in a car outside his home, which led to the capture.

Police found a cell phone on Moore, but do not know how he obtained it.

Correctional officers were transporting the 28-year-old to the hospital around 9 a.m. Thursday for a scheduled doctor's visit.

When they arrived at the hospital around 8:50 a.m., Moore ran off.

D.C. Police say Moore was able to free himself from his restraints while he was being transported.

Moore had been incarcerated at the Correctional Treatment Facility awaiting trial on assault with intent to kill charges.
