Fenty fractures foot in football fumble

WASHINGTON - D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty may have had a bit too much fun on his Fourth of July vacation.

The mayor broke his foot.

"I have a hairline fracture of the metatarsal," Fenty tells WTOP. "It happened on July Fourth playing beach football."

When asked who got the better of him, Fenty quipped, "the sand."

Fenty appeared at a press event Monday morning wearing a cast on his left foot. He said he went without the cast for a week, but he started wearing one under doctor's orders.

The avid runner says he's been unable to run since the accident.

"I've kept it pretty stable, so I've just been biking and swimming, no running," he says.

Fenty says the cast will stay on as long as it takes to heal -- "probably at least a couple of more weeks."

He says he hopes the cast will come off in time for his trip to China for the Olympics.
